I had a coaching call yesterday with a client who scored a large prospect meeting. In that meeting, the prospect told my client that one of the drivers for his willingness to meet was not only to meet my client but also to learn about the local industry and its dynamics from him. You see, my client has been in business for 13 years, actively participates in local, regional, and national industry circles and associations, and is a trusted voice in his space.

As we discussed follow-up strategies, I mentioned that it makes sense for my client to develop an approach that focuses on continued education and industry awareness, two traits the prospect expressed a desire to gain from my client.

By simply focusing on building earned trust and a marketplace reputation based on educating and consulting prospects, you (or your business) position yourself to be a part of the most active opportunities.
